INSULATING WINDOWS

Krypton - the optimal filling gas for double-glazed windows

Improvement of Heat Efficiency by Insulating Windows

In order to efficiently heat buildings, it is highly desirable to minimize energy losses to the environment. In this way costs can be minimized and energy sources saved. As such, the glazing of windows plays a crucial role. Insulating windows, consisting of multi-pane-glass and a filling gas sealed between the panes, help to minimize heat losses. Instead of air, noble gases such as Argon or Krypton are commonly used as the filling gases. They are the better filling medium as they have low conductive and convective heat transfer properties.

Krypton as Filling Gas

Argon is the cheaper option, but Krypton has better insulating properties and better reduces heat transfer through energy efficient windows. In addition, the optimal distance between the panes of a double-pane window for Krypton is smaller compared to Argon, which enables more compact window designs.

Messer has proven to be an experienced and professional provider of Krypton for the manufacturing of insulating windows.
